The woodland has a diverse forest community of native trees, shrubs and plants which provide habitat for birds and animals. It also has unique limestone outcroppings and archeological sites. This beautiful property on Maple Avenue is called “Wyndhurst,” a name derived from two old English words: ‘wynd’ meaning a lane, and ‘hurst’ meaning a wood or wooded hill.
Wyndhurst continues a tradition. For more than a century the Lewis-Sanford families have been active in the community, dedicated to preserving the beauty, history, and open space in Warwick. The Lewis family donated the land surrounding the Old School Baptist Meeting House, which makes up our lovely Village Green; they deeded a woodland garden, formerly part of the Thomas P. Fowler Estate, called the Madison H. Lewis Woodlands, which is now a village park; and they sold the development rights to the historic Sly farmstead to our town.
